About the journal

A working notebook,
not a brochure.

Travelsaya is an independent journal about moving through Indonesia: the ferries, the platforms, the park desks and the places in between. It is written in English and priced in rupiah.

Why this exists

The useful parts are the boring parts

Most Indonesia coverage is a list of beaches. The information that actually decides a trip is less photogenic: which ferry leaves on which day, whether the park card is valid for a year, how long the road to Toraja takes, and what a room costs when the generator runs out at midnight.

Travelsaya is built around those details. Each region page carries a route that works, not a wishlist. Each long guide is one trip, with the connections and costs that make it possible. When a schedule changes, the page changes with it.

The site is independent. There are no sponsored posts, no affiliate links and no press trips. Photographs are licensed from Wikimedia Commons and credited in full; the base map is Creative Commons and credited on the map itself.

How we work

Three standards, applied to every page

01

Check the source, not the vibe

Timetables come from operators and park offices. Prices are ranges, not invented precision. Where something changes often — park fees, ferry days, visa rules — the page says so and tells you where to confirm.

02

One trip, not ten options

A guide should be usable on its own. We pick a route, explain why it works, and leave the alternatives for the region pages. Fewer options, better checked.

03

Credit the photograph

Every image is a real photograph under a Creative Commons licence, linked to its Commons page with the photographer and licence named. No stock imagery, no generated landscapes.

Editorial standards

What you can expect

Corrections

If a ferry no longer runs or a fee has changed, tell us and we will check it. Corrections are made in the page, not in a comment thread. Write to support@travelsaya.com with the page and the detail.

Photography

All photographs are sourced from Wikimedia Commons and used under the licence shown in the footer credits. They show the places described, not generic versions of them. If you are a photographer and want an image removed, contact us and we will act on it.

Map

The regional map uses the Indonesia provinces outline map by Afrogindahood, licensed CC BY-SA 4.0. We recoloured the land and simplified the presentation; the province boundaries are unchanged. Region markers are placed at the centre of each group of provinces.

Independence

No payments are accepted for coverage, links or placement. The site has no advertising and no affiliate relationships. If that changes, this page will say so before anything else does.

Privacy

This site does not set cookies, run analytics or collect personal data. Email is the only channel, and messages are kept only as long as needed to answer them.

Get in touch

Send a correction, a question or a route

We read everything. We cannot plan individual itineraries, but a specific question about a ferry, a road or a park usually gets a specific answer.
